[event] Above & Beyond, Paul van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Gabriel & Dresden, Moby (live), Dubfire ... 05 & 06.08.2011 @ Hanul Piratilor

The Mission strikes yet again with a dream lineup. And all is happening this august, at Hanul Piratilor Beach, Navodari, a Romanian resort at the Black Sea. The annual dance event reaches number 4 this summer, and it just might be the best.

Trance dominates the first night (05.08), with Above & Beyond coming to play tracks from their newest album, Group Therapy, that will hit the stores this June. Paul van Dyk, another trance superstar is here to do his annual visit to Romania, together with dutch dj & producer Ferry Corsten (who last came in Romania to present his Twice in a Blue Moon album) and Gabriel & Dresden, who this year have decided to resume their project and reunite. Romanians Snatt, Vix & Alexandra Badoi will provide the warm-up.

In the second night (06.08) we move away from trance and, besides the techno set from Dubfire (who rocked Studio Martin in autumn), we get live representations from Moby (out with this latest album, Destroyed) & Romanian acts Suie Paparude and R.O.A. (Rise of the Artificial). The Model, OK Corral and Greeg will do the warm-up.

Opinion:

Loco Dice is one of my favorite artists when it comes to production (the review for his 7 Dunham Place album you can find here, and for the two Desolat samplers where he is present, here and here) but also when we`re talking about selecting high quality tracks. This compilation, released at UK based label NRK Sound Division, demonstrates that fact.

Opinion:

8Bit is a great record label when it comes to tech & deep-house. Also it`s one of my favorite and I would buy a new release without even hearing it first. That`s because I know that quality comes first when it comes to the German-based label. This month they are celebrating 5 years of existence , an important milestone, with a double-part compilation and a three-vinyl pack.

Opinion:

What made me get this new compilation? Well, first it`s Cocoon. And every true clubber knows what a big brand it is: parties, clubs and a label bear this name. And they are surrounded by good quality techno, and some variations including minimal and tech-house. I saw a small review on a site praising the house & tech-house sound of this album and I remained puzzled. Do really people listen before they say their opinion?

[vinyl] Paul van Dyk - Reflections (Special Edition)

Specs:

Artist(s): Paul van Dyk
Name: Reflections
Genre: trance
Label: Vandit
Catalog: Vandit 035
No. of vinyls: 2
Type: special edition (dj friendly)

Tracklist:

A1: Buenaventura (Reflections Vinyl Remix)
A2: Crush (PvD Album Remix)
B1: That's Life (PvD Mix)
B2: Reflections (Club Mix)

C1: Nothing But You (Berlin Mix)
C2: Kaleidoscope (Vinyl Mix)
D1: Time Of Our Lives (UK Club Mix)
D2: Like A Friend (Vandit Club Mix)

Opinion:

Paul van Dyk's fourth studio album continues his personal trance style, although Reflections has a brighter, slightly calmer atmosphere than his former works.  The LP has long dj friendly tracks and retains 8 out of the 13 tracks present on the CD, including the work that made me fall in love with PvD`s music, namely Time of our Lives.
